About us

The contractor who shows you the workings.

Voltline has done commercial electrical and renewables across Newcastle & the Hunter, NSW since 2009. In that time we learned the thing buyers actually want is not a lower number, it is a quote they can trust. So we built the business around making ours legible.

Most renewables and electrical jobs go wrong before the first cable is run. A solar system sized to the rebate instead of the bill. A battery sold as backup that cannot run in an outage. An EV charger bolted onto a board that cannot carry it. By the time the owner sees the problem, the export that never came, the nuisance tripping, the failed inspection, the cheap installer is long gone.

Voltline started in 2009 with a simple idea: write the quote so the engineering is impossible to hide. The load calc, the cable sizing, the switchboard assessment, the named equipment, the STC line, the compliance deliverables. Put next to a cheaper quote, ours does not look dearer. It looks complete. That is usually the whole conversation.

A customer cannot inspect the cable sizing or the load calc after the install. So we make it something you can read on the quote instead, before you sign, not after it fails an inspection.

Today we cover commercial electrical, project work, solar, battery and EV charging across Newcastle & the Hunter, NSW, with one certifying electrician on every job and no travel surcharge within 40km of Newcastle.

How we work

Three things we will not compromise on.

We show the load calc, not just the price

Most of what decides whether an energy system is safe and worth it is invisible: the load calc, the cable sizing, the switchboard condition, the compliance. So we put it on the page, line by line. It is the part the cheap quote leaves off, and the part that decides whether the system pays back or trips the house.

Sized to your bill, not the rebate

Sometimes the honest answer is a smaller system, or a switchboard upgrade before the solar. We size to your actual usage and tell you what you really need, even when it is the smaller job, because a customer who trusts the first quote is the one who calls back for the battery and the EV charger.

Everything certified and in writing

Itemised scope sheet, NSW electrical contractor licence and CEC accreditation on the quote, make and model named, Certificate of Compliance and as-builts at handover, warranty stated with its exclusions. No cash-only handshake, no one-number text.

The right fit

Who we are the right contractor for, and who we are not.

We would rather lose a job to a fairer fit than win one we will both regret. Marcus is honest about who Voltline suits.

If you want the cheapest number on the street or a cash job off the books, we are probably not your contractor. If you want a quote you can read, a system sized to your bill, and work that passes inspection and still makes sense in ten years, that is the whole business.

Who you are dealing with

A small crew, not a call centre.

Marcus Vale

Founder & qualified supervisor

Twenty years across commercial maintenance and renewables, the last ten watching cheap quotes win on a number with no load calc behind it, then cost the owner twice. Started Voltline in 2009 to put the workings on the page, every time.

“I would rather lose the job to a fair quote than win it by hiding the load calc. The systems I install on an itemised sheet are the ones that still make sense in ten years.”
Sixty seconds with Marcus, why he started Voltline, and the one thing he will not put his name to.

Dana Whitlock

Solar + battery designer (CEC accredited)

Designs every solar and battery system to the metered load, not the rebate. Runs the shading study, the cable sizing and the payback model that ends up on your quote.

Theo Nguyen

Project coordinator

Books the site assessments, builds the scope sheets and runs the certification and handover. The reason the as-builts and certificates are in your hand at the end.

How it runs

What happens from first call to handover.

1

Site + load assessment

We measure the load, read the switchboard, check supply and phase, and look at roof or cable routes.

2

Design + scope sheet

You get the load calc, cable sizing, the named equipment and an itemised quote. The workings are on the page.

3

Contract + schedule

Fixed scope, STCs and rebates shown as a line, a start date that fits your trading or build program.

4

Install

Licensed install to AS/NZS 3000, staged around live sites and tenants where needed.

5

Test + certify

Every circuit tested, RCDs proven, Certificate of Compliance issued. Solar and battery commissioned and monitored.

6

Handover + docs

As-builts, test results, warranties, monitoring set up, and a walk-through of how it runs.
